Debtor Education After Filing for Bankruptcy
Those who are in debt and wish to file Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy under the United States Bankruptcy code will need to participate in an approved Debtor Education course after filing for bankruptcy, and before they can receive their bankruptcy discharge.
Debt Education and Certification Foundation provides this type of course, and is an approved provider by the Executive Office of the United States Trustee (Approval by the United States Trustee does not endorse or assure the quality of an Agency's services). Debtor Education or Pre-Discharge Education refers to the requirement of debtors to participate in a U.S. Trustee approved debtor education course through an approved organization after filing for bankruptcy, and prior to the discharge of a Chapter 13 or Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The course will be a two-hour course over financial management and is required in addition to the pre-bankruptcy certification course taken prior to filing.
Courses will be available to be completed over the internet in a user-friendly format for the convenience of debtors and their attorneys. Certificates of completion will be delivered to the debtor by email in PDF format, faxed or mailed.
